BOISE -- Community members came together Saturday to help a non-profit organization in need.
This week, Handy Hands Reflections found the building they rent flooded. Water came down through the ceiling, ran down the walls and got into the lights.
Handy Hands Reflections makes scrapbooks for families who have a loved one in hospice care or have had a loved one pass away.
Until 11 p.m., scrapbookers are paying rent for table space to work on their projects as a way to raise money for Handy Hands Reflections.
"I can't thank them enough for all the support," said Jacki Kelsch with Handy Hands Reflections. "We've had so many reach out to us for whatever they can do. And it's awesome."
Organizers started Handy Hands Reflections three years ago.
BOISE -- With all the snow we've had the last few days, the Boise WaterShed spent Saturday afternoon teaching kids about the importance of snow.
Kids were able to learn about avalanches and participate in activities that taught them about all the ways snow helps the environment.
They also taught a group of kids this afternoon just how fun snow can be by taking them snowshoeing up at Bogus Basin.
"We've got a great facility out here and it just helps to drive home the importance of our water resources and the importance of keeping and taking care of the resources we do have," said Dave Eiriksson, a Boise State graduate student.
The Boise WaterShed holds activities every third Saturday of the month.
Each activity is different, but they all have something to do with water.
BOISE -- Boise Police are investigating after two people were found Saturday morning with what appeared to be stab wounds.
Officers were called to a home in area of W. Boise Ave. and Beacon Street around 5 a.m.
The first officers on scene saw a car leaving the house. They soon discovered a person inside the car with what looked like stab wounds.
A second person with stab wound-like injuries was also found a short distance from the house.
Both people are currently receiving medical attention. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
Police said they don't know the exact relationship between the pair, but did say that the cases appear to be connected.
Stay with KTVB and KTVB.COM as more details about this case come to light.
BOISE, Idaho -- Lawmakers in the Idaho House introduced legislation to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors.
The so-called e-cigarettes allow the user to heat nicotine, herbs or other substances and ingest the active ingredients without actually burning the substance.
But Republican Rep. Bob Nonini, of Coeur d'Alene, says state health officials are increasingly concerned about sales of the devices to children. Nonini brought legislation to the House Health & Welfare Committee on Friday that would prohibit sales of e-cigarettes to minors.
The Spokesman-Review reports the panel voted to introduce the measure, which will now have a public hearing.
Advocates for banning sales of the devices to kids say it will send an important message about smoking in general.
BOISE -- Across the U.S., including here in Idaho, it has been a mild flu season.
The Centers for Disease Control shows minimal cases in Idaho, activity is even down this week from the past two weeks. But they are reporting indications that flu activity is going to pick up.
Idaho's Department of Health and Welfare confirms they have not seen many cases here yet , but the season could peak in late February.
With that in mind, they say it's not too late for a flu shot.
BOISE -- A group of Republican senators are looking to clarify their position on the senate's decision last week to allow Sen. John McGee to maintain his leadership role as Caucus Chairman.
In a joint statement released Friday, nine Republican senators said that while Sen. McGee is their friend and colleague, they would like to uphold the integrity of the institution. They also say the reason they issued the statement was because they felt that there was a perception that the voting to keep Senator McGee in his position was a unanimous one. These Senators spoke out to make it clear there was a descending vote.
The senators are Russ Fulcher of Meridian, Monty Pearce of New Plymouth, Chuck Winder of Boise, Dean Mortimer of Idaho Falls, Steve Vick of Dalton Gardens, Shirley McKague of Meridian, Lee Heider of Twin Falls, Mitch Toryanski of Boise, and Sheryl Nuxoll of Cottonwood.
Part of the statement reads, "Our constituents expect us to stand up for the convictions, principles and values we have said we represent and...
BOISE -- A former Boise State Bronco, who helped lead the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl win in 2010, is making a big donation to the BSU Athletic Department.
Daryn Colledge and his wife, Megan, announced they will donate $150,000 to the athletic department to help revamp the weight room and upgrade the equipment.
"We are extremely grateful for all that BSU and the city of Boise have done for us,” Colledge said in a written statement. “We are excited for this opportunity to give back to our university, and we hope that with this gift and others like it, BSU will be able to continue to give so much to Boise. We are grateful we can contribute to those who have supported us for so long."
Colledge earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors in 2004 and 2005 at Boise State. He helped the Broncos win four consecutive WAC Championships.
Bronco head coach Chris Petersen said it is always great when former athletes remain involved in the program.
“Daryn and Megan’s generosity towards...
BOISE -- First it was snow, then it was rain, and next came the flooding.
The Ada County Highway District crews had their hands full Thursday trying to get rid of water that had backed up onto the road.
By Friday, most of those areas were clear.
ACHD crews responded to more than 100 reports of flooding. Thanks to some high powered vacuum trucks, crews were able to suck some of the water off the roads.
The first step for crews is clearing blocked storm drains. Some drains became blocked by debris and ice.
In Eagle, near Floating Feather Road and Edgewood Lane, the drainage system was overwhelmed by water. Crews brought in two vacuum trucks and they say those trucks made all the difference.
"If it wasn't for the vacuum trucks we'd still be there just baby sitting it and trying to get other pumps out there. Trying to pump water with a lot more hoses and it would just take a lot longer to get the water out of there. I mean these trucks that we have and the water trucks that were there were...

BOISE – An Idaho Falls man is rejoicing after winning $200,000 on the Powerball game.
Idaho Lottery officials say Donny Jones nearly threw his winning ticket away. However, his wife Connie encouraged him to check the remaining numbers on his ticket, and that’s when he learned all five matched.
Jones bought his $1 ticket for the December 17, 2011 Powerball draw.
“I just don’t believe I’m the big winner!” exclaimed Jones “I’m still stunned.”
He picked up his winning at the Idaho Lottery headquarters in Boise Thursday afternoon.
Jones works as a cook for the Hometown Kitchen Restaurant in Idaho Falls.
“Winning made for a good Christmas,” said Jones.
After paying off some bills, Jones says he plans to do something nice for his wife.
The winning ticket was sold at the Common Cents store located at 520 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. For their part in selling the winning ticket, Common Cents receives a $20,000 bonus from the Idaho Lottery.
BOISE -- A 65-year-old Las Vegas man has been sentenced to just over five years in prison for his role in an Idaho bank robbery last spring.
The U.S. attorney's office says Melvin Glen Lantis was sentenced Friday to five years and three months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release for the April 22 robbery of a Key Bank branch in Boise.
Lantis pleaded guilty to casing the bank the day before the robbery and driving the getaway car after Bryan Mark Johnson robbed the bank of just over $13,000.
U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Lantis to pay $23,033 in restitution.
Johnson, who also pleaded guilty to robbing another Boise bank, is scheduled to be sentenced in March. He has a 2002 bank robbery conviction in Nevada.
BOISE -- Bogus Basin has officially broken its record for the latest opening date -- Jan. 6, 1990.
"We are not proud of that by the way," said Bogus Basin's General Manager Mike Shirley.
Unfortunately, this season will have the latest opening date in Bogus Basin's history.
On Friday, there was barely enough snow to cover the base of the mountain and grass was poking through the snow. But Shirley is optimistic Mother Nature will turn things around soon.
"We think it is going to snow, and we think we've got a lot of good winter left, and we are going to provide a season here before long," said Shirley.
The current forecast doesn't show a chance of snow until Thursday, but workers at Bogus Basin know that weather patterns can change overnight.
"It could turn around very quickly, and we could be up there, have the mountain open, have 10,000 people up there," said Alan Moore, Vice President of Finance at Bogus Basin.
Moore says if Bogus Basin got a good storm, they could be open in a couple of days.
Until that storm...
MERIDIAN -- A student was hit by a car in front of Meridian High School Friday morning.
The accident happened at about 7:16 a.m. and the 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He is expected to be treated and released quickly.
Sergeant Matt Parsons with Meridian Police says the teen was not using a crosswalk and he was wearing dark clothing when he was hit. It was before daylight when the accident occurred.
"The Meridian Police Department is hoping that when people are out, drivers need to just be aware of students in school areas. And students, or any pedestrians, need to use the nearest crosswalks. Safety first," said Sgt. Parsons.
The driver will not be cited.
BOISE -- Republican and Democratic leaders in Idaho's Legislature say they'd support creating an independent commission to review alleged ethics violations by members.
House Speaker Lawerence Denney said Thursday at The Associated Press' 2012 Legislative Preview that such a panel would bolster public confidence that allegations of impropriety are handled impartially.
The House and Senate now call their members to review complaints.
In 2010, House ethics panels tackled complaints against northern Idaho Republican Rep. Phil Hart, whose fight over unpaid taxes won him peer scrutiny.
And the 2005 Senate convened an ethics panel against now-former Sen. Jack Noble when the Kuna Republican introduced legislation to benefit himself.
Sen. Edgar Malepeai told reporters Democrats would also call for financial disclosure for lawmakers, a measure that's been blocked in previous years by House leaders.
BOISE -- The Boys& Girls Club of Ada County announced Ada County's brand new "Youth of the Year" on Thursday night.
Five teens from the Garden City and Meridian Boys and Girls Club competed for top honors tonight, and the winner was 16-year-old, Wes Pettit.
Pettit won a $1,000 scholarship from the Micron Technology Foundation and will now go to compete for the title of Idaho youth of the year next month.
This comes on the heels of last year's Ada County winner, Darnisha Victorain, who was a national contender and got to meet President Obama in the White House.
BOISE -- The Boise Police Department has a suspect in custody after they say he robbed a Jacksons convenience store on West State Street on Wednesday.
Police say detectives arrested the 17-year-old suspect Thursday in Kamiah, Idaho, on an Ada County robbery warrant.
The arrest was helped by several citizen tips and the assistance of Kamiah Police Department.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, his name is not being released by Boise Police at this time. He is in custody in Kamiah and is expected to be extradited to Ada County on the felony robbery charge.
"Our officers were able to act very quickly thanks to the quick response we received from both citizens and other law enforcement agencies. That cooperation really made this arrest and is greatly appreciated," said Sgt. Mark Barnett of the Boise Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
BOISE -- Two brothers from Nampa could find themselves on the national stage with a commercial they produced for Doritos. The commercial is just one of over 5,000 solicited by Doritos as part of their "Crash the Super Bowl" contest.
Michael and Jonathan Monasterio believe they have a commercial on their hands that could win them the competition. Their commercial got over 6,000 views on the contest webpage in its first two days.
Now they have the 17th most views -- hoping to become a finalist and a chance at a lot of money and fame.
The brothers graduated from Skyview High School in Nampa. They are now going to school at the University of Utah.
It was there he became friends with Chris Le, an aspiring film director.
"He brought the competition to my attention, said 'Hey, let's go for it,'" said Monasterio.
With Le's background with computer generated images (CGI) they decided early on they wanted to have some sort of a robot in their 30 second Doritos commercial. Monasterio was in charge of developing his character...
BOISE -- Idaho is one of 24 states supporting the Food and Drug Admnistration's effort to regulate new warning labels for cigarettes.
The FDA announced in June that tobacco companies would be required to include the new labels on all cigarette packs beginning in September 2012. The labels include graphic images of rotting teeth and gums, diseased lungs, and a sewn-up corpse of a smoker. There are nine images in all and tobacco companies would be required to run them on a rotating basis -- even in their advertisements. Also, the labels would cover the entire top half of all cigarette packs.
Major tobacco companies challenged the rules, and last month U.S. District Judge Richard Leon ruled in their favor. The ruling blocked the new warning labels while courts decide whether or not they violate the First Amendment rights of cigarette companies, which could take years.
The FDA is now challenging the lower court ruling.
On December 23, the Idaho Attorney General's office filed a friend of the court...
BOISE -- An icy parking lot appears to be a contributing factor when a truck crashed into a Boise business Tuesday afternoon.
According to witnesses, a man was pulling into a parking space near the Birdhouse & Habitat store at 12598 W. Fairview Avenue when he lost control of his truck and slammed into the front of the building.
Boise Police Officer Adam Nielsen says it appears the pavement was in the shade and still covered in ice. He says this incident should serve as a warning to others that they need to slow down in these type of conditions.
The driver was not hurt in the accident. No citations have been issued. The accident remains under investigation.
FRUITLAND -- A 37-year-old Fruitland man shot by a police officer last Thursday remains in critical condition at a Boise hospital.
Fruitland Police Officer Bill Copeland shot Jamee Lee Wade outside a Fruitland home after receiving a 911 call from threatened family members.
Copeland, who is now on paid administrative leave, has been with the Fruitland Police Department for approximately 8 months.
Wade is still hospitalized at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Idaho State Police is investigating the incident. Charges are pending.
BOISE -- Idaho has delivered arguments to the Idaho Supreme Court on why justices should reject a lawsuit filed by Twin Falls County aiming to have the state's new legislative boundaries thrown out.
Twin Falls argues the county-splitting map approved Oct. 14 disadvantages its voters.
Idaho counters the plan meets the one-person, one-vote requirement, splits counties only where necessary and joins similar communities.
According to the filing, redistricters crafted a plan that's legally defensible and meets Idaho's best interests.
Secretary of State Ben Ysursa said Tuesday he's hopeful justices will rule soon after a scheduled Jan. 5 hearing, to give Idaho election officials time to prepare for the May 15 primary.
A second, separate lawsuit, filed by northern Idaho counties, is due for oral arguments in state Supreme Court on Jan. 19.
BOISE -- An appellate court has upheld the conviction of a southern Idaho woman serving seven years in prison for stealing cattle.
The Idaho Court of Appeals issued a ruling Tuesday in the case of Traci Hadden, who says her trial should have been moved from Lincoln County due to the publicity surrounding her in a separate case, where she was charged with plotting to kill her former father-in-law.
The appellate court rejected that argument and affirmed a jury's finding that Hadden was guilty of stealing 20 head of cattle from a ranch near Shoshone in 2008. She'll serve at least another 10 years
for aiding and abetting in the attempted murder of then-60-year-old Craig Hadden.
He was shot four times with a rifle outside his home on April 1, 2009.
BOISE -- The woman, who police say abandoned her child at a friend’s house earlier this month, made her first appearance in court Tuesday.
23-year-old Corynn Hower is being charged with a felony for non-support of a child after prosecutors say she left her 2-year-old daughter with a friend and never returned to pick her up.
“The defendant said she would be back in one hour and that never happened. The defendant didn't make contact with the friend two days later,” said Prosecutor Kathryn McNulty.
Prosectors say Hower left her daughter without shoes, a jacket, or a change of clothes at her friend’s house on December 18th. When Hower called her friend two days later, she told the friend she was using drugs and asked if the friend if she would be willing to take temporary custody of the child.
That's when law enforcement was notified and the 2-year-old little girl was placed in the custody of the state.
During the arraignment Tuesday, the judge set Hower's bond at $5,000 dollars.
Hower's temporary...
BOISE -- Many people are headed back to work today after the Christmas holiday and they were greeted by snow falling on the valley floor. While that is a welcome sight for skiers and others who enjoy outdoor recreation, it led to many slide-offs and accidents around the area.
Idaho State Police responded to at least 20 accidents on Interstate 84, many of them were between the Meridian Road exit and Robinson Road. There were three fender benders just west of Black Cat Road. Dispatchers tell KTVB that one person was transported to St. Luke's after complaining of chest pains. That accident was reported around 6 a.m.
Police are encouraging motorists to slow down due to the icy conditions on roads and highways, and allow extra space between yourself and other vehicles. Around 7 a.m. the average speed on I-84 between Meridian Road and the Flying Wye was around 30 miles per hour.
The Idaho Transportation Department had crews out early this morning with trucks de-icing the interstate. ...

BOISE -- A van carrying a family of seven rolled on Interstate 84 early Monday morning.
Idaho State Police says the van rolled into the median just after 4 a.m. near New Plymouth.
There were five children and two adults in the van. ISP does not know what caused the accident but investigators say it appears the driver was drowsy or falling asleep.
The roads in the area were dry.
"It's probably a good opportunity to remind people when they're traveling this holiday season to pull off the road, get a motel," said Sgt. John Burke, Idaho State Police. "Don't take a chance of something like this happening. So, if you get drowsy, you feel like you can't drive, just pull off and get a hotel."
The family suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario, Oregon.

Hear from Kellen Moore after his final game on the Blue Turf in a shut out over New Mexico.
KTVB was there four years ago when a couple of Broncos who are seniors now talked about signing to play for Boise State.
A lot has happened in those four years. Saturday, those seniors played their final game on The Blue against New Mexico.
Senior Day at Boise State let Bronco Nation say goodbye to one of the most successful classes to ever play there.
An emotional pre-game ceremony sent off 21 Bronco Seniors in style. The crowd gave huge ovations to the likes of the now legendary Kellen Moore, and many guys who played their high school ball in Idaho, like Shea McClellin, Byron Hout, Jarell Root, Kyle Efaw, Tyler Shoemaker, Cedric Febis and Nate Potter.
The players met their families at mid-field to share this special moment.
Some of those families shared their thoughts on how overwhelming the whole experience has been.
"(My pride's) just bubbling over right now," said Charles Hayes, offensive lineman Chuck Hayes' dad. "You couldn't measure it right now. So proud."
"It's a 'Wow, this has been a fun ride....
BOISE, Idaho -- The Idaho Cattle Association says the amount of red meat produced in Idaho has declined during the last decade.
And the United State Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service says red meat production at Idaho packing plants in October was down 80 percent from the same time last year at 3.5 million pounds.
Bill Brockman, former president of Magic Valley Cattlemen's Association, says loss of grazing lands and irrigated land being use for more profitable crops rather than cattle feed have contributed to the decline in red meat production in the state.
He tells the Idaho Business Review that the closure of a meat packing plant in Boise in 2006 hit the Idaho industry hard, forcing producers to drive out of state and cutting into profits.
BOISE -- A Boise man is waiting for a new kidney. The transplant operation is costly, so to help with expenses, his family is fundraising by gift wrapping Christmas presents.
Nick Madril will go to Salt Lake City in February for the transplant. His kidney started to fail a year and a half ago. The family told us Nick's brother is donating one of his kidneys for Nick.
His family is gift-wrapping at Shopko this weekend and next weekend to raise $40,000 of out-of-pocket expenses for the procedure.
Nick's family said the kidney transplant is his last option.
“The doctor said that his only hope to live is to have a kidney transplant, so that's where the fundraiser is coming into effect," said Karen Madril, Nick’s wife. "We're hoping people and the public will help us raise some money to have him have a second chance at life.”
The fundraiser is at Shopko from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. this weekend and next weekend. Then they will be at Sportsman Warehouse the following weekends. If you'...
GARDEN CITY, Idaho -- One man was arrested early Friday morning after police say he beat another man and robbed him.
It happened around 1:50 a.m. on Chinden Boulevard. Garden City Police were dispatched to a battery in progress.
Police arrested Antoney Jones, 40, of Boise. Police say Jones beat a 33-year-old male victim and took his money while he was incapacitated.
Jones was taken to the Ada County Jail.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
BURLEY, Idaho -- Authorities in south-central Idaho are investigating a reported home invasion and aggravated battery on a young woman.
The Times-News reports a woman from Burley called 911 early Wednesday to report that her daughter had been home alone when two men tried to break into her residents. The woman told police her daughter confronted the men and was struck on the head before they fled the home.
Police say the daughter then drove to her mother's workplace, where they called police.
Cassia County Undersheriff George Warrell confirmed Friday that the case remained under investigation and said no further details could be released.
BOISE -- Boise's firefighters and police officers are taking a voluntary pay cut to help the city's budget.
The city of Boise is facing a tightening budget, just like most local governments.
Mayor Dave Bieter already cut vacant jobs and eliminated raises. But there was still the possibility of having to cut fire and police protection.
"Boise's bravest and Boise's finest have done it again, by taking a pay cut, and saving our city once again," said Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan.
Bieter joined with Boise Police and Fire representatives Friday afternoon to announce that the city's firefighters and police officers will forego a previously contracted cost-of-living increase for 2013.
The new agreement will hold their pay back to current levels and save the city more than $1.2 million next year. It also means that no firefighters or police officers will have to be laid off.
"It was a pretty easy decision," said Guy Bourgeau, Police Union President. "You know that you don't want to sacrifice a service to the city. You know...
BOISE -- A Boise man was cited for inattentive driving Friday morning after police say he caused an accident on Overland Road.
Around 9 a.m. officers responded to a crash at Overland Road and Vinnell Street.
The investigating officer says a 30-year-old Boise man was driving a dark blue Chevy Cobalt and tried to make an illegal left turn and t-boned a lime green Ford Focus. The impact of the crash caused the Focus to rolled on its top.
The female driver of the Focus suffered minor injuries in the accident and was transported to a local hospital. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
The driver of the Cobalt told police he did not see oncoming traffic. He was cited for inattentive driving, which is a misdemeanor.
Traffic was completely blocked in the eastbound lanes of Overland Road for about 45 minutes after the crash. One westbound lane was also closed down.
Police say there are traffic signs in that area telling motorists that no left turn is allowed. They hope this will serve as...
CALDWELL -- One man is dead and another was taken to the hospital following a collision with a semi truck Thursday night.
The accident happened just before 9 p.m. on Farmway Road. Idaho State Police say Habtom Tesfazgi-Russom, 26, of Boise, ran stop sign in his Toyota Camry and pulled out in front of a semi truck.
The truck hit the passenger side of the Camry. Justin Davis, 30, of Caldwell was riding in the car. He died at the scene. Tesfazgi-Russom was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
The truck driver, William Gallagher, 55, of Dallas, Oregon, was not injured.
Both Tesfazgi-Russom and Gallagher were wearing seat belts. Davis was not.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
BOISE-- The calender still says fall but the Idaho Transportation Department has already started to prepare for winter.
On November 1, ITD switched to its winter schedule, moving workers off of construction projects to prepare for winter maintenance.
ITD knows as the temperatures start to drop it is just a matter of time before it has to worry about snow on the roads.
During winter months, ITD has people working around the clock.
If the roads get bad ITD has 120 workers that it could potentially call in to help.
"We have about 25,050 lane miles in this district. We have about 85 plows. So there are times when you won't see the plow out there but we are doing as well as we can do with what we've got," said Reed Hollinshead with ITD.
Last year to keep the roads clear ITD ordered 11,000 tons of deicer, salt and sand. ITD plans to order at least as much this year.
BOISE - Fire crews responded to a house fire on Lubkin Street in Boise shortly after noon today.
A dad and son we talked to on the scene say they were working on a car in the garage when the fire started.
When KTVB arrived the family was trying to put the fire out with a garden hose. Boise Fire says the flames spread from the garage to the attic. Fire crews took over and were able to get the fire out.
Emergency crews did take the dad to the hospital to be checked out. His injuries are unknown.
BOISE – A 21-year-old man accused of abusing his girlfriend’s 18-month-old daughter has been charged with first-degree murder after the girl died from her injuries.
Alai'ja Freedom Corbin was hospitalized on Oct. 8 with head injuries after paramedics responded to her Boise home.
Her babysitter, Jordan Everhart, was arrested and initially charged with felony injury to a child. That charge has since been upgraded to first-degree murder, according to court records.
An emergency room doctor said a CT scan of the girl showed new and old bleeding in her brain.
Police say Everhart claimed a dog knocked over the girl, but police only found two 20-pound puppies in the residence.
Everhart is due back in court on Nov. 18 for a preliminary hearing. He remains in the Ada County Jail on $500,000 bond.
BOISE -- It is an exciting time of year for skiers and snowboarders. For those who love being on the mountain, it is time to begin tuning and waxing your equipment, or maybe you are looking for something new to the start the season. If you are in the market for new skis, a new board, a new coat, or even new gloves, the Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation Ski Swap is a good place to start looking.
It doesn't matter what you're looking for, if it is related to snow, you will probably be able to find it at a discounted price at the ski swap.
"We've got thousands of square feet of ski boots, skis, clothing, snowboards, telemark and cross country gear, odds and ends," said Brian Wiley, Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation (BBSEF).
A lot of the money made at the ski swap goes to benefit the BBSEF, a program at Bogus Basin that teaches kids how to ski, snowboard, and appreciate the sport. The money is used to help cover the cost of coaching and events, in an effort to make it cheaper for families who...
BOISE -- Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry is setting up his Idaho campaign.
Perry, the governor of Texas, announced Friday that Idaho State Treasurer Ron Crane and former Garden City Councilman Ralph Perez will be his co-chairmen.
Crane is a four-term Republican treasurer and former state lawmaker, while Perez now serves as a Republic district chairman.
Idaho, a deeply Republican but sparsely populated state, has complained in the past of being ignored by GOP presidential campaigns in the run-up to elections.
So in 2012, Idaho Republican leaders have opted for a presidential caucus that's due to be part of "Super Tuesday" in March to potentially lure more Republican candidates to actually campaign here.
Perry has rivals, though, especially since Idaho is often seen as a stronghold of GOP candidate Mitt Romney.
BOISE -- Boise State travels to Las Vegas Saturday night and needs to take care of business against their Mountain West foe if they are going to get an at-large BCS bid at the end of the season.
Kellen Moore looks to become the winningest quarterback in NCAA history and help No. 5 BSU build some momentum for next week's critical matchup against TCU on the blue turf. Moore is 45-2 as a starter. He is tied with former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy for the most wins in NCAA history.
Boise State (7-0, 2-0) is coming off a bye week. They dropped one spot in the BSU standings, after being surpassed by Stanford which defeated USC in triple overtime.
Under head coach Chris Petersen, the Broncos are 22-2 when they’ve had more than 10 days between games, including 6-0 on the road.
Playing in Las Vegas should bring back some good memories for the team and their fans. The Broncos defeated Utah 26-3 in the MAACO Bowl at Sam Boyd Stadium on Dec. 22, 2010.
Our Bronco coverage on Channel 7 starts Friday night with...
BOISE -- Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador says it's time for the federal government to get out of the business of subsidizing energy projects.
The Republican announced Thursday he is co-sponsoring legislation that would get rid of all energy subsidy programs, including tax incentives for renewable projects.
Labrador says instead of tapping taxpayers to subsidy dollars, he would rather let the free market determine and guide the nation's energy development.
The measure calls for eliminating $90 billion in energy tax subsidies over the next 10 years and reduce the corporate tax rate by the same amount.
The bill also has the backing of groups like Americans for Tax Reform and Americans for Prosperity, which is backed by oil billionaire David Koch and lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation.

BOISE -- The woman who Ada County deputies said purposely crashed her car into oncoming traffic and injured two could face felony aggravated battery charges.
The 70 year old woman and a 64 year old male victim are still both in the hospital as of Thursday evening. Even though the woman already told deputies she was trying to commit suicide, Boise lawyer David Leroy warns, attorneys may have to find a way to prove her intent, if the case goes to court.
“We will simply have to await more facts to determine how it is the prosecutor is able to conclude or allege that this was a suicide attempt in which someone else was injured, if they attempt to prove that at all," says Leroy.
He says aggravated battery is injuring someone with a weapon and in this case, the weapon is the car.
Jennifer Stewart, who works for Animals “R” Us located on State Street, remembers every moment of the Wednesday morning crash, “He wasn’t moving at that point and then when I saw him moving I ran to him immediately and just asked him to lie down...
BOISE-- Last year, 290 Idahoans took their own lives. The numbers are both shocking and sad, but suicide prevention volunteers say as a community we can help turn those numbers around.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention says 90 percent of people who die by suicide show warning signs. Those warning signs include talking about or writing about suicide, feelings of hopelessness or depression, withdrawal, increased drug or alcohol use and giving away prized possessions.
"You should never just pass it off," said Gary Bell a volunteer with the Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho (SPAN) and The Trevor Project.
Kim Kane, the Executive Director for SPAN of Idaho, says if you see the warning signs in someone, you should ask that person if they are thinking about committing suicide.
"This problem is going to be solved on a one on one basis and if people ask, listen and refer someone, then they can save a life," said Kane.
Volunteers say if you are worried about someone help them find a trusted...

Someone called police dispatch shortly before noon. Smith was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Boise. His condition is unknown.
Malheur County Sheriff's deputies and Oregon State Police troopers are investigating.
